Technical analysis is a trading tool used to assess the state of stocks and attempt to predict their future movement by analyzing statistical data on their trading activity (price movement and volume). Unlike fundamental analysts who try to determine the true value of a stock, technical analysts focus on price movements and various analytical tools to try to determine the future direction of the price.
Over time, analysts have developed a myriad of technical indicators that attempt to predict the future direction of price. Some indicators are aimed at identifying current trends, including areas of support and resistance, while others are needed to determine the strength of the current trend and the time of its continuation. Commonly accepted technical indicators are trend lines, moving averages and moment indicators such as the MACD indicator.
